Kinewell Lake Local Nature Reserve

The Work Parties
All the conservation and management work is carried out by volunteers. At present, work parties are on Saturday afternoons. (Please note that this is a new time!) There is about one work party a month.
Meet at the car park at 12noon. If you are late, we should be somewhere around the lake! Please come and find us!

The work carried out over the last year has been impressive. These include:
Clearing Nettles for the children to plant bulbs in 'Bluebell Wood'
Thinning Willows from the shores and preparing fishing sites
Helping with the hedge-laying
Thinning the plantations
Creating nest-sites around the islands
Building and launching a Tern Raft
Coppicing and pollarding Willows in a marshy area to maintain the wetland habitat This work is ongoing
Pollarding is our main work party activity at present. I hope to put a page on pollarding on the site - please revisit for further details.
The work parties are strenuous but fun, and anyone is made welcome.
The next work parties are on:
Dates are changing at present. Most will be on Saturday afternoons and over the winter, there will be work going on most weekends Please e-mail me for further details.
Funds and Fund-raising
The lake is owned by the village and managed by a voluntary management committee. A further band of eager volunteers organise events to raise money in the village to fund the conservation work. All funds are always gratefully received.
We are hoping to build a study centre for use of the nature club, as well as local schools, cubs, brownies, etc. We are applying for grants for this.
