Otters at Kinewell

Otters, Lutra lutra, are gradually re-establishing themselves along the River Nene. To encourage them, an otter holt was built at Kinewell Lake in October 1997. In the winter of 1998, otter droppings (or spraints) were found on two separate occasions. Soon after this the water level in the river rose above the entrance to the holt. So further evidence was lost. However, it is hoped that it will not be long before Otters are a common sight on the river and the lake. Watch this space!
