Kinewell Lake Nature Club is an informal club that is free to join!!
There is a meeting about once a month. This is usually on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The emphasis is on fun, but we try to learn a bit about the wildlife of the lake.
Previous meetings have included:-
Planting a hedge and trees bordering the new summer meadow
Creating Snake habitats to encourage Grass Snakes
Putting up nest boxes including a Tawny Owl box - we hope to monitor the boxes over the coming year
Pond dipping - rather wet, but lots of creepy-crawlies
A trip to the National Dragonfly Museum at Ashton - great fun and very informative, despite the weather. It was rather unclear, however, who enjoyed it more - the adults or the children!!
Planting Violets and Wild Strawberries in a pollarded area of Willows.
Pond creation and planting - Puddling was fun!!
There was even a grand Easter Egg Hunt, with everyone winning an Easter Egg.
The programme for 2000 is almost at an end now. If the weather is OK, we will have meetings in October, November and December. Any ideas for the year 2001 will be gratefully received!
